Model: Kerosene Deluxe

It was really fun shooting this with Kerosene. Normally she's vamped to the max with corsets and stockings and hairpieces. I'm honored that she trusted me to do simple nude photos with her <3

**EDIT 1/27:
Wow, I forget to check DA for a while, and I come back to see a DD :wow:

Thank you!! It's been fun reading through all the feedback and discussion
prompted by my image.

One thing I do want to note is that I feel all the people discussing the model's weight/health are missing that really, it's a bit irrelevant: what makes this photo special is that it's a stripping away of beauty armors--heavy makeup, corsets, other accouterments--which are normally used by Kerosene to create her other works. This photo is less about who she can become through styling, and more about being courageous enough to step out of her comfort zone and trust being photographed as her bare self. It would have been just as special if she had been a thin model making an exception to her standard no-nude rule.
Body comments would have happened either way- she's voluptuous, so she gets the "real woman"/"fat and unhealthy" dichotomy, whereas were she slender, I am positive there'd be the "I'm so tired of stick thin models!/eat a sandwich!" to contend with. Anyone who is photographed nude is subject to judgements about what they choose to do with their body, whether it's "perfect" enough. Can't win. Would you insult an old woman for being photographed nude because she wasn't young and sexy enough? Because this is really what all the controversy is about: be attractive in the way the viewer wants, or be bashed. Gotta give Kerosene props for shooting nude despite all that. Sometimes beauty isn't about how "healthy" (fuckable) you are.

One word sums this up... WOW!

I'll add just a couple more though. Love the lighting, the model, and the pose. Absolutely beautiful work!

I absolutely love this picture!
As a curvy girl myself, I completely object to the comments below like 'thank goodness she's an imperfect model' - I think her body is incredible, but everyone's has a flaw somewhere, therefore everyone is imperfect.
I love her tattoos, her curves, the shadow over the middle of her body which enunciates her femininity even more.
And her expression is just perfect, open but closed at the same time.
I know it takes an amazing model, but also an incredible photographer to make an incredible picture like this.

First I'm not old. Second takes a fat guy to know one. I am fine with myself.
At least I am not an arrogant dickhead who randomly insults people, then cowardly hides behind his computer whacking off to soft porn and crying because he never got any real love in his life.

If insulting pretty much everyone who disagrees with you makes you feel better about yourself, which I doubt it does since it reflects nothing but darkness and depression in your self loathsome pictures. Nothing about your style is attractive or professional.. and eventually down the road someone is gonna kick your ass, if they haven't already.

Learn how to talk civil and respectul to people. You will make more friends that way. Instead of childish rants. I'm rubber, your glue, what you say to me sticks to you.

Hold up a mirror kid and take a long hard look at yourself, and you will see you are what you call others.

I love this picture. It's so gorgeous because of how simple it is. Like you said, there are plenty of pictures of this same model with all this extra business going on, sometimes she, herself, gets pushed into the background. This brings her to life completely!

But I have to agree with your added note about all this conversating about her physical features. Everything you said, whether it be the idea that someone would say something no matter how thin or not she was or why it even matters. But you truly nailed it with your last sentence.

Nonetheless, I love this because it is an artful representation of a woman who, for once, can be seen as she naturally is. :)

Honestly I think this is one of the most beautiful nude photos I have ever seen. I appriciate the fact that the model isn't perfect. She's a real woman like me. She has curves and a serious amount of beauty to be seen. We're all different and in our own way we are also all beautiful. This makes me think that someday even I may be able to have nice portraits made of myself.

I respect the fact that Kerosene was willing to come out of her comfort zone and allowed you to photograph her nude. I know I wouldn't be comfortable enough to do the same.

She is beautiful, her expression shows that she knows it too.
I love the way she looks so confident of her body and her spirit. And her tatoos rocks!
Her eyes shows somehow a vulnerability that is completely unexpected, and it is the most gorgeous thing on the role image. Just gotta love it!

I am actually really tired of seeing people recommend a photo of a heavy person, beautiful or not, and say that she is beautiful because she is brave, or imperfect, or whathaveyou. This woman is beautiful not just because she is brave, and not because she is imperfect--how fucking pretentious can you be?? She is no pity case to love because she is less than perfect--by saying that you are implying that she is only beautiful because she dares not to be. Of course, yes, perhaps I'm looking too deeply into the thousands of comments on photos like these, but gods, it's truly infuriating!

She is /beautiful/ because she loves herself, and it shows. The message here isn't 'if you don't have a picture-perfect body, you can still be beautiful'--it is, /love/ and /trust/ yourself and you'll find the beauty that was always there. This woman is truly beautiful, in body, in spirit--can't we praise that instead? Skinny or heavy, if you love yourself, you will look beautiful. If you don't, no matter how dolled up you are, it will show. Like those terribly skinny models who never seem to be able to smile... or those horrifically obese women who can't be bothered to love themselves enough to take care of basic hygiene. Neither of these types of women are beautiful--but they always could be in their unique ways.

And frankly, she's not that heavy--she looks /lovely/. She looks both strong and vulnerable. She looks like a woman.

And I love this photographer. The lighting in this--guides your eyes gently through her form, to each curve, deep or subtle. Makes you look twice, as a friend of mine said. It focuses not on her sexuality, or her tits and ass, but rather the whole of her, and makes you /look/ at her. And you see her. And gods, she's beautiful.

Beautiful. Excessive but natural (Contradiction? I think not). Sexy.
And to all those dicussing about natural beauty and stuff like that, let me say that true beauty is in sigularity, not in perfection. Something, or someone, is unique despite the prevailing aesthetic canons.

Congrats on the DD! I absolutely adore this photo. The dramatic lighting is stunning and the strong shadows and slightly cool colour temperature work beautifully with the model's pale skin. I really like how the colours in the backdrop subtly mimic the colours in the model's tattoo (which is a gorgeous focal point for the image).

Having read Normally she's vamped to the max with corsets and stockings and hairpieces in your description, I Googled the model to see her other photos and you've captured a really lovely and unusual side of her in your picture. There's something fabulous about seeing a picture of someone styled differently from their usual look that still retains the essence of the person in front of the camera.

I'm sad that the suggester chose to present this daily deviation as anything other than a beautifully executed photo of a beautiful woman. The flaw here is not in the model. There are billions of types of beauty, and I wish more of them were shared, explored, and celebrated in this way. I love the lighting and the pose. You've captured a very ethereal quality here. I would love to see a set of this model in warm, glowy colors too. I think they'd be incredibly well suited to her.
Z-In-Your-Hair Featured By Owner Jan 11, 2013  Student Digital Artist
I clicked on this piece to read the comments. Not going to lie.

I find it amusing that we call her "beautiful in her own way" or "perfect just the way she is," or a "real woman."

It's like the elephant in the room. We all know she's "overweight" but we all find different ways of saying "well, that's just fine!"

What is amusing to me is that we have to make the distinction that she is beautiful despite (or because of) her weight. We are noticing it all the same, even if she is "perfect the way she is," we are acknowledging that there is some sort of "fault" and that she looks beautiful despite it.

The comments aren't about "this is a beautiful woman" or "this is a gorgeous shot" or "those are fantastic tattoos" .... it is about weight whether she is "a real woman" or a "fatty." Even those who call her beautiful are acknowledging that her weight in some way plays a part in our opinion of her. ("So what if she's got a little more fat.) My comment is no different. I chose to look at this picture because due to her weight I knew there would be some interesting comments. I wasn't disappointed.

I'm not saying that we're all calling her "fat", it is the fact that we are still judging her (even if we call her beautiful) because of her weight, one way or another. Isn't that interesting?

I think as a group instead of saying that she is a "real woman" or that she "is sexy because of her curves" we should recognize the *artist* for taking a phenomenal shot of a woman. Period.

Wow thats a long comment O_o...And most of it is probably true, I see many comments that are only there to either say how they arent interested in women like that or they don't like people with a little bit of meat. I personally don't judge on size or anything there in. The picture that the artist took is really cool. And the camera must be great to get a good quality picture. And the camera angle is also an interesting choice, but I also look at the model. I'm not judging her, I am seeing her as she is, how she lives and what her life might be. I look at people as though they are books. Each of them has a story and sometimes can be very hard to read. But for the most part I agree that people shouldnt judge because of weight. It's a picture that was meant to be this way. We should all enjoy it's uniqueness. After all, if all the pictures were the same, DeviantArt would be a very boring place. Also if this offended you in any way, my apologies. I'm just randomly spurtin out things.

SabertoothChikn Featured By Owner Jan 12, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
No I read all of it actually. And I never stated that your comment said anything. I was agreeing with points and putting my own opinion into the mesh. While going along and randomly typing my own thoughts as well. Lol maybe you didn't read my comment, it's no problem though.
