'Mourning clothes of a peculiar fashion, denoting her state.' Captain Francis Grose. Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1811).
"Weeds" refers not to spindly, undesirable plants, but rather comes from the old english word waed, simply meaning “garment.”
Still, I couldn't resist going out to shoot this amidst the foggy, dead rushes at the riverbank. It was just too apt.

Silly question, but as the photographer, do you put your camera on timer or have an assistant push the button? That's a lot of running back and forth if you're solo and use the timer! Sorry, it was just sort of an amusing image.
